The Little Maid Did Not Witness to a Man

A friend wrote on my page:

"All the scripture speaks for itself. In II Kings 5 did a female maid go to a man and advise him to seek Elisha the prophet? Was she corrected for speaking out? What about God gave Pilate’s wife the dream to instruct Pilate?

I’m just saying please consider what’s the balance of scripture? No woman is overstepping here but did speak up."

McCann reply:

No, the maid did NOT go to a man and advise him anything. The little maid told her mistress (another woman) and word got back to Naaman concerning what she said:

2 Kings 5:2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.

3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

4 And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

This passage is actually an encouragement to women who obey God's commandment not to teach men, that the Lord can use their obedience (as the little maid was in line with God's Word as she told her mistress about the prophet in Israel – the prophet here being a type of Christ who heals the spiritual leprosy of sin) and then the word spread in an appropriate manner to Naaman himself (the leper/sinner) who through it was cleansed (saved).

We need to be careful with God's word. Some searching the Scriptures with only an eye to prove their point and find support for their point lump things together that do not support nor prove their point.
