God Gets All the Glory!
Pastors say God gave the gift but you (the sinner) must receive it. They say this in order to indicate that man must do his part (work) to become saved.
However, God fully knows man's tendencies towards adding works to His pure Gospel of grace-and so the Lord moved John the Baptist to declare that even reception of a gift coming down from above is in itself part of the gift:
John 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
Again, even the act of receiving a gift is in itself part of the gift of God.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Man gets and deserves no glory in salvation. Salvation is all of God's work and NONE of man's. God gets all the glory.
