Understanding Vowel Points as Inspired is Not New

The idea has been presented that maybe this new understanding that the vowel points were inspired is along the same lines as God opening up other tremendous end time truths. No way!

First of all, the issue over whether or not vowel points were in the original Hebrew was brought up centuries ago. Although they were a minority opinion they were certain adherents to this idea in the church that go back hundreds of years. There's nothing new about it.

Secondly, if this were true then the Lord would have opened up our understanding to it before the time of the end arrived. Why? Because this concerns the very issue of coming to truth. It concerns what is God's Word and what is not God's Word. What is being said, is that God allowed Mr. Camping to go 50+ years of his ministry -- a time wherein the Lord was opening up truth after truth, and yet this was all done without the understanding that vowel points in the Hebrew text were also divinely inspired. More than that, Mr. Camping consistently dismissed the vowel points as not part of God's inspired text. How could that be if they were truly inspired?

Yet somehow, despite dismissing parts of the inspired text (according to those who hold to this idea), God blessed Mr. Camping's studies. And I would also add that I also dismiss vowel points when I do Bible studies. And yet the Lord has continued to bring forth truth despite what could only be a grievous error if it were true.

This kind of idea (the vowel points are inspired by God) would need to be foundational. God would have had to open up the eyes of His people to it prior to His opening the Scriptures at the time of the end since it literally impacts every single word in the Old Testament.

No, this is not a "new opening" of the Scriptures in any way. This is simply an old error rising up and being given attention once more.

Follow-up

Since a number of EBF listeners also listen to BMI I think it's necessary to address this directly.

Gunther today was responding to a caller and said that a vowel point was a word. He called it (the vowel point) a seruqa or sereqa. Gunther said these vowel points were words and then gave 2 Strong's numbers: #8292 & #8322.

When we look at the Strong's number for these so called "vowel points," we find two fully developed Hebrew words (that mean “bleating” or “hissing”). That is, Seruqa has several consonants and sereqa has several consonants. In other words, these two words are normal Hebrew words they are NOT vowel points.

I'm not sure what Gunther was referring to? Maybe he was taking the term (sereqa/seraqa) that the theological word book he uses (a book I would not at all recommend to anyone) applies to the vowel point -- and confused with the actual usage of the Word in the Bible. I don't know. But I do know that Strong's #8292 & #8322 are not numbers that identify with vowel points.

Secondly, vowel points are not words. Just like a consonant by itself is not a word.

Finally, since some listen to both EBF and BMI, I want to stress this point -- the original text of the Hebrew did not have vowel points. They were not placed there by God.
