Pour Out Contents of Package Mix in Milk – and Voila! Instant Pudding Salvation!
John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you,...
Salvation is not obtained by man's choice of Christ. But rather it is obtained by Christ's choice of man.
But why then does God command man to believe, if it is impossible for him to do so in his fallen condition? The reason is because God continues to address the sinner as a creature created good in His sight.
The giving of the law of God (the whole Bible is the law of God) was designed to show man's sinfulness by showing him his inability to keep the law and do that which is pleasing to God. The command to believe is also a law. Man's inability to keep it shows him his desperate need for a Saviour. And in the day of salvation, a sinner shown his terrible sinfulness – and the fact that he could do nothing at all to get himself saved – would lead the sinner out of desperation to call out to God for His mercy.
Luke 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
In this parable of the publican, we do not see him accepting Christ or making any kind of decision for God at all. No. He is helpless before God. He dares not even look up because he realizes his spiritually filthy condition before God. His only plea is that God grant mercy to him for he is a sinner. And then what? What happens after a sinner would beg God for mercy? Well, with the instant pudding salvation of our end time and fully corrupt church, it wouldn't get to this point because they would provide a false deliverance to him which would allow him (false) comfort of mind and (false) security concerning his spiritual condition. Stop beating your breast.
But that's not the way God designed it. Instant pudding salvation is false salvation. The true experience of becoming saved might play out for a very long time. Maybe for years a sinner waits on God to grant him mercy. And by the way, where is the doctrine of waiting on God in today's church? Wait on God – for what? We can pour out the pudding package into the pan and mix in some milk and stir and there you have it. Instant pudding.
But God's people wait on the Lord because they realize true salvation is of the Lord. And therefore they must wait for Him to act and not they themselves:
Psalm 123:2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
