Jesus was the Sign

Some people do not like to hear that Jesus' time of ministry, and especially His going to the cross was a living tableau.

Yet, listen to the Bible's own language concerning Jesus' entry into the world:

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

God says He will give a SIGN. And the sign is that a virgin will conceive and bear a Son.

Already, even before Christ's birth God is revealing that Jesus will be a tableau (a sign).

Maybe Isaiah 7:14 isn't clear enough for you. Then what about this verse:

Luke 11:30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

Notice, we're told that just as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, SO SHALL ALSO THE SON OF MAN BE (a sign) TO THIS GENERATION.

That's twice now, that God identifies the the Lord Jesus Christ, at the point of His birth and entry into the world, as being a sign.

But there's more evidence that Christ's life was indeed a tableau. In the book of Hebrew's we read an amazing thing:

Hebrews 7:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

We don't see this right away. But a careful reading reveals that God is speaking of the Lord Jesus, and tells us that Jesus is AFTER THE SIMILITUDE of Melchisedec.A similitude is similar to a sign. The Greek word (#3665) is also translated as “like as.” Hebrews 7:15 is saying that Jesus is LIKE AS Melchisedec.That's stunning information. We've always thought that it was the other way around. That Melchisedec was the type and figure, and Jesus was the reality that he (Melchisedec) was pointing to. But that's not the case.The incredible thing this verse is telling us, is that Jesus is the type and figure of Melchisedec. A complete reversal of how we've previously understood things.
